The historic connection of the parish of Mitchelstown to St Fanahan dates back to the seventh century and to a monastic settlement at Brigown. A date given for his death is 660AD.
The Feast of St Fanahan is celebrated by the parish on November 25 every year and is proceded by a nine day Novena of Prayer at the Holy Well of St Fanahan in Mulberry, which started on Monday, November 16.
The novena will conclude with special concelebrated Mass in the parish church on Wednesday, November 25 at 7.30pm. Everybody is encouraged to participate in the annual celebration of the parish’s patron saint.
