Stop Food Waste- Ballyhoura Development presents a series of workshops on Food Waste Prevention
In Ireland there is over one million tonnes of food waste disposed of each year. Around 1/3 of this comes from households and means that, at home, each person is throwing out about 80kg of food waste each year.
This may not sound like a lot on its own but when we add it up for all the people in Ireland it means that over 300,000 tonnes of food going to waste each year in our homes.
While some of this food waste cannot be avoided the majority of it could be saved if we managed our food better
Ballyhoura Development Ltd are supporting a 3 session course on food waste prevention and composting delivered by Donal O Leary from Irelands Stop Food Waste programme.
This is aimed at Tidy Towns groups to improve performance in the sustainable waste and resource management category, however this course is of benefit to all, and all are welcome.
Learn how to promote both food waste prevention and composting in your local community with this three-session course (two weekday evenings and one half-Saturday). One third of all of the food bought in Ireland is thrown out, and we can help to change this by raising awareness in our communities. Training will be provided in the essentials of food waste prevention and composting, and the Saturday will entail a hands-on session building a composting demonstration area.
